PoE Switching

Every camera, reader and operator on the network draws power from somewhere. We calculate the PoE budget for the actual devices on each switch, rather than assuming a switch's rated capacity, since an underpowered switch fails quietly, one device at a time.

Labeling and as-built drawing delivered.

COST
5 FACTORS

What drives the cost

Scoped to your property, not a flat per-item rate. These are the factors that move the number, in the order they usually matter.

FACTOR
WHY IT MATTERS
Device count & power draw
Determines total PoE budget needed across the switch.
Switch class
Managed switches with VLAN support cost more than unmanaged.
Redundancy
Backup power or redundant switching for critical sites.
Enclosure
Outdoor or environmentally exposed switch locations need rated enclosures.
Cable runs
Number and length of runs terminating at the switch.

PoE Switching FAQs

What happens if a switch is underpowered for its devices?

Devices fail intermittently, one at a time, rather than all at once — which makes it look like individual device failures instead of a power budget problem.

Do security devices need their own switch?

We recommend segmenting them onto their own VLAN at minimum, and a dedicated switch where the device count justifies it.

Can an existing switch be reused?

If it has the PoE budget and port count for your device list, yes — we assess that before recommending replacement.
